Rainy, rainy, rainy day

the clear cut... will it live?

It poured like crazy all day long today… a good excuse to do no gardening. I am all talk. I sat inside wondering how my new planters were faring in the downpour. Would the deluge help or hinder the clear-cut Dusty Miller? I’ll investigate tomorrow. Or whenever the rain stops. And I remember.

In other news, the tall and wild and beautiful burnt orange lilies that love every abandoned lot (and garden) in town are here! (Along with their friends, the diminutive duck-billed butter-yellow blooms.)

The lilies look like orange flamingos… bird-stepping carefully over spiky stem islands.

The DM doesn’t look that bad. That said, summer is a very short season and Dusty Miller is cheap; why spend your season coddling a ragged hold over from last year? (Yes, I know, what a horrible disposable attitude. Again, summer is very short.)

I have a soft spot for the only thing I managed to keep alive in the house all winter… except my family! And yes… life is cheap, is it not? Sigh. Oh, the humanity….
